AnimaWings, a 100% Romanian airline, announces the reception of a new next-generation Airbus A220-300 aircraft, designed to provide a superior level of comfort and efficiency on the company’s short and medium-haul routes. The new aircraft, bearing the registration YR-RUN, is the fourth of this type and the sixth operational aircraft in the AnimaWings fleet, with the full-service operator thus continuing its accelerated fleet expansion strategy. The next two aircraft are expected to arrive from the Airbus factory in Canada in April.
The new aircraft, delivered directly from the Airbus manufacturer’s factory, will operate several important European routes, including Bucharest – London (Gatwick), Bucharest – Geneva, Bucharest – Munich, Bucharest – Milan (Malpensa), as well as flights to Athens from Cluj and Timișoara, contributing to strengthening Romania’s air connectivity with major European destinations.
“The fleet expansion represents an important step in our development strategy and is part of the most extensive investment project in aeronautical infrastructure in Romania in recent decades, a country-brand project through which we aim to strengthen Romania’s domestic connectivity, as well as its integration into an increasingly extensive network of international routes. Our plan remains ambitious: by the end of 2027, the AnimaWings fleet will reach 18 modern aircraft, which will allow us to develop new routes and increase frequencies on already popular destinations,” said Marius Pandel, CEO of AnimaWings.
AnimaWings currently operates the newest fleet in Romanian aviation, with an average aircraft age of approximately 5 years.
The Airbus A220-300 model is internationally recognized for its operational efficiency and the comfort offered to passengers. The 148-seat economy class configuration provides more space per passenger compared to similar aircraft in the same category, contributing to a more comfortable flight experience. The new aircraft has seats arranged in the specific A220 3+2 configuration per row, distributed across 30 rows, and includes a dedicated Premium Seats area in the front section of the cabin. The first 12 rows offer 60 premium seats, with additional legroom, more comfortable seats and adjustable headrests, designed to provide a superior flying experience on regional and extended European routes.
Superior comfort and state-of-the-art technology
The new Airbus A220-300 aircraft was specially designed for short and medium-haul flights, being optimized for routes of up to 4–5 hours.
Among the distinctive features of the brand-new aircraft are: wider seats and generous legroom, a dedicated Premium Seats area in the first 12 rows with extra space and adjustable headrests, panoramic windows for more natural light in the cabin, individual USB ports at every seat, a modern cabin with ambient LED lighting and oversized overhead baggage compartments, as well as reduced noise levels. The aircraft is equipped with three lavatories, one in the front and two in the rear, and a unique detail is that one of the lavatories is fitted with a window, a feature rarely encountered in aircraft cabins.
In addition, the Airbus A220-300 is one of the most efficient aircraft in its category, with fuel consumption reduced by up to 20–25% compared to previous-generation aircraft, a performance that contributes to reducing emissions and the carbon footprint, supporting the company’s sustainability objectives.
Through constant investments in modern aircraft and the development of an extensive network of European destinations, AnimaWings is strengthening its position as one of the most dynamic Romanian airlines, offering passengers a premium flight experience, high operational efficiency and extended connectivity between Romania and Europe.
